How to Reset Xfinity Router

Try Restarting the Router First

Try rebooting your router first before doing a reset. Plug it back in after unplugging it from the wall and waiting 10 to 20 seconds. Then wait as it restarts for a few minutes.

You can reboot your router if it doesn't fix your network problems.

Be aware that resetting your router will return it to its factory default settings, wiping away all of your customized settings as well as the network name and password.

How to Reset Xfinity Router

To reset your Xfinity router (or modem/router), follow these steps.

Note that doing this will delete your network name, password, and settings. So before continuing, consider that.

Find the reset button.

The reset button on your router is often located on the bottom or back.

For five seconds, keep pressing the button.

Press and hold the reset button for five seconds using a paperclip or a pen (or longer).

Release the Button

Release the button after a short time and watch as your router reboots. Up to five minutes may pass during this.

Connect to Your Router

Connect to your router by typing its IP address into your web browser once it has been brought back up. Generally, the IP address is something like 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1.

Check the manual that comes with your router if you don't know the IP address.

Load the Xfinity Setup Page

Congratulations if you can see the Xfinity setup page! Your router has been successfully reset. You may now restart configuring your home network.

If you are having trouble viewing the setup page, consider restarting your computer. If it doesn't work, you might need to get in touch with Xfinity for assistance.

If your Xfinity router lacks a reset button, you may also try logging into your router online and performing a reset.

  • Open a Web Browser: Any browser, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Brave, will function.

  • Type Your Router’s IP Address: Enter the IP address of your router here. Once more, the IP address is often in the range of [192.168.0.1]. Check the instructions that came with your router if you are unsure.

  • Login to Your Router: To log into your router, use your Xfinity account login and password.

  • Navigate to the Reset Page: Search for a page with the words "reset," "reboot," or anything similar after logging in.

  • Click the Reset Button: On this page, click the reset button.

  • Confirm the Reset: You might need to formally declare your desire to reset your router. Click "OK" or "reset" if necessary.

  • Hold Off till Your Router Reboots: Your router will restart when you press the reset button. Up to five minutes may pass during this.

  • Connect to Your Router: Connect to your router by typing its IP address into your web browser once it has been brought back up.

  • Load the Xfinity Setup Page: If the Xfinity setup screen appears, your router has been successfully reset. You configure your home network from here (again).

Restart the web browser and try again if this didn't work. Restart your computer and give it another shot if it doesn't work.

Restart your computer

Final Thought

By holding down the reset button for a few seconds or by accessing the router's login page, you may quickly reset your Xfinity router. However, you might need to contact Comcast's customer care if you're having trouble resetting it.

You have alternative options if you need to reset your Xfinity-provided router regularly due to hardware or connectivity problems. Instead, get a new, improved router. You can find all the materials you need to support your upgrading in our guide to the best routers for Comcast Xfinity Internet.
